Goose Egg Marketing

Marketing with a small budget?

Sounds like an oxymoron right, like jumbo shrimp? Well, I started thinking about that. Is it possible to do legitimate marketing on LOW to NO budget. It was then that I realized, I do that everyday for my clients. But I have never used it as a platform to market my business. I never thought about giving that knowledge away. Well that is exactly what I am going to do.

Last week I was talking with Scott Airitam, Chair of the Rowlett Chamber and President of Scott Airitam's Leadership Systems, LLC., the conversation was about projects we are working on and he asked me what I was doing. I told him I am speaking at the Rowlett Business Luncheon next month and my topic is on, you guessed it, marketing on a small budget. The title of the event is “Marketing with a goose egg or very little bacon”.

He looked at me kind of funny and then said “I love that, how did you put those two things together.” I didn’t have an answer for that. My ideas come at different times and once I start that creative process I really don’t know where it comes from but it does.

Goose Egg Marketing was born. The idea behind this venue is not necessarily free marketing, although that is considered a jewel, but low cost, effective, marketing. So, as I roam the web and come across services and products that would help my clients then I will post those for potential clients to view and determine what is best for them. There will be a ranking system that I will provide. The ranking is based on time, cost, and effectiveness. The Egg Rating will help you determine, from my opinion, if this resource is deemed valuable.

The Goose Egg Marketing website should go live here in the next few days. Each week I will add a tip or a resource that I consider worth your time to evaluate and see how it might benefit your marketing efforts.

Marketing Nugget of the Day: What is a Brand?

Branding Man

One of the many questions that we ask potential clients is, "do you brand yourself well?"  Some say they think they do, others stare blankly at us and say, "what is a brand exactly?"  There are many definitions of a "brand" that you can find on Wikipedia or in Webster's, but basically it is how you want your patients to see you.  We see a lot of practices, typcially small to medium sized, that do not have one single brand, but many.  The practice starts out with one image, then picks another one, and then subsequently chooses others and before they know it, they don't know who they are anymore.  This leads to brand confusion.

Strong Branding characteristics are:  is it immediately recognizable (like the Nike swoosh), well perceived identity (Your in Good Hands With Allstate), demonstrates continuous quality (Starbucks), has sustained presence (Coca Cola), but most of all does it drive customer demand (any of those already mentioned).

There should be a brand connection to existing and potential patients through emotions, feelings, associations, and expectations.  Does your brand do all of this?

Marketing is about listening, solving, producing and enjoying the relationships we gain along the way.

Marketing Nugget of the Day: Buy Domain Extensions

  network solutions Go Daddy

When choosing your practice's website domain, the more extensions, the better.  Instead of just choosing the .com, try to purchase as many extensions as possible so that another company is not able to use your name.  For instance, buy the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, etc. if you can. You can link all of these to your main website so that when a potential patient does a search for you or your specialty, you will rise to the top of the search engine.

You can find domain names at either Network Solutions or Go Daddy

Marketing Nugget of the Day: Domain Fee

network solutions    Go Daddy

How long has it been since you reviewed your current service agreement with your web hosting/designer.  Are you paying a "domain fee"?  Do you know what this is for?  If you own the domain name, there is no fee.  You paid for it upfront typically when you purchased it from either Go Daddy or Network Solutions.  We have seen so many clients pay for services that they have already paid for once or don't need to pay for at all.  Did you know that you can buy a domain name relatively cheap?  We have seen domain names as cheap as $1.99 a year.  Open up your own account and be proactive.  Also if you don't own your domain, ask your web developer/design to transfer it to your name;  most likely you already paid for it anyway.  If you need help with purchasing a domain name or any other web issues, please contact Marketing Specific MD.
